light, and environment are the enemies of all materials on earth. It is the job
of a grading company to minimize these forces so that a Gem Mint 10 today is
still a 10 three generations down the line
Sadly,
many grading companies fail to think much beyond the next E-Bay auction. This
short sighted mentality is leaving many cards degrading daily--especially if
they are exposed to the ravages and fading that results from exposure to UV
light. Both PSA and SGC holders offer no UV protection beyond a minimal amount
that comes from the cheap plastic itself. At PRO, our plastic costs four
times as much, because we demand only the finest optical grade polycarbonate
enriched with the finest UV protectant available. This material also is more
difficult to mold and takes a higher melting point than conventional industrial
plastics, but the result is worth the cost.

good enough" is not part of the PRO mentality. We are a company that is
dedicated to staying on the leading edge of technology, and we are never
satisfied. Many times the real quality is difficult to see at a glance, but the
minute you pick up a PRO capsule you will feel the difference. This is no
ordinary piece of plastic--this is something special!
1. Our holders
filter out 98% of the UV-A radiation that damages sports cards by causing
photochemical changes, brittle cardboard, fading, and color shifts. This is
accomplished with a very expensive additive which we have in our plastic. You
can't see the filter, but 10 years from now a collector will know the difference
by the appearance of his cards. The ones in cheap holders will have faded, while
the cards in PRO holders will still look as good as they do today.
2. PRO holders are all made of optical or
medical grade plastics, which are guaranteed to be free of impurities, which are
permitted in all commercial plastic. We do this because we recognize that many
impurities can cause spotting and color changes simply due to the chemical
composition of the impurity. At PRO we don't want to be the cause of a yellow
spot forming on Michael Jordan's head five years down the line.
3. John Hoffman has spent two years
studying the problems of environmental damage to encapsulated sports cards. The
PRO capsule is designed to afford the maximum protection available for your
cards. It is very hard to break, and rarely cracks if accidentally dropped or
mishandled. No plastic is unbreakable, but we are using the same material used
in the cockpits of military jets and it is recognized as the strongest clear
plastic in use today.
4. PRO holders are tamper-proof. After we
have ultrasonically welded the holder together, it is nearly impossible to open
it without causing obvious damage. Card switching just isn't practical with
PRO
